Mark Astrella is an accomplished artist, illustrator, cartoonist and a professional stage lighting designer living on the island of Maui who sells prints and original paintings from his [markastrella.com] website. Astrella has illustrated several children's books which have sold over one million copies worldwide. His realistic, airbrushed acrylic paintings are amazingly detailed, vivid and colorful and the stage lighting photos on his website are incredibly similar to his paintings. As the "lightman" for live performances of famous bands and dance acts since the 1980's, Astrella literally paints the stage using colored lights instead of paint and it is truly amazing to see how the beauty of his work crosses over from his artwork to the stage. Few people have a better understanding of how light falls across an object than this guy. Rather than outsourcing, Astrella produces Giclee prints in his Maui studio using high-quality Epson equipment. This ensures that each and every print will live up to his own color and quality standards. To make each piece unique he often writes information on the backs of paintings and prints about the where, when and why each was created and they are usually accompanied by little cartoon drawings.
